Our community was shocked Monday morning to learn of the death of Mr. J. R. Nettles, a prominent and prosperous planter of Marion ward. He was sick only about a week, in fact, less than ten days prior to his death he was on the streets of Farmerville apparently in good health; hence the news of his demise was a shocking surprise to his many friends here, and showed the great uncertainty of life. Mr. Nettles died from pneumonia which is now so prevalent and fatal in Marion ward. He was a good man, a kind husband, and indulgent father. His loss will be sorely felt in his neighborhood. Mr Nettles was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge of Farmerville in which order he carried an insurance policy of $2,000.
