Sigmund Meyer

Mr. Sigmund Meyer, a prosperous merchant of Monroe, and one of the foremost business men of that city died on the 4th inst., after a short illness. He was the senior member of the large mercantile firm of Meyer Brothers; and was a gentleman well known by a host of people in this parish. Prior to the opening of hostilities in 1861, Mr. Meyer and his brother, Herman, conducted a mercantile business at Marion in this parish. He was a gallant Confederate soldier, serving through the war as a member of the Seventeenth Louisiana Regiment.
