Last Rites for George W. Ward

Wednesday, December 7, 1938

Funeral services for George W. Ward, 51, who died at his home here Tuesday morning at 4:40 o’clock, will be held this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the local Baptist church, conducted by Rev C. W. Holmes, pastor of the Baptist church of Overton, Texas, where Mr. Ward resided part of his time. Following the church rites, Union Fraternal Lodge No. 53, F. & A. M. of which the deceased was a member, will take charge and interment will be made in the Farmerville cemetery with full Masonic honors.

Mr. Ward is survived by his widow, Mrs. Selma Beaird Ward, and by two children, Mrs. Martis Wooster of Overton,  Texas, and George W. Ward, Jr. Six sisters and three brothers also survive, who are Mrs. Ollie Henderson and Mrs. John Taylor of Farmerville; Mrs. A. D. Crow of Marion; Mr. J. D. Aulds and Mrs. Cobb Sawyer of Monroe; Mrs. Claud Boggs of Stockton, California; Walter Ward, Perry Ward and Hale Ward of Farmerville. A large number of more distant relatives in this parish also survive.

The deceased was a successful lumberman here and at Overton, Texas, for many years. He was a member of one of the oldest and most prominent families of this section of Union Parish.
