Graveside services for Marvin Kent Rhodes, 68, of Tucker, Ga., formerly of Spearsville, La. will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at New Hope cemetery with Jimmie Rhodes officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville.
Mr. Rhodes, retired Photography Professor at Atlanta College of Art and Southeastern Center for the Arts, went to his heavenly home on January 12, 2017. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving in Vietnam. He was a graduate of Old Dominion University and obtained a Master’s Degree from Georgia State University. Marvin was active in the City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs, where he received many grants and earned the Award of Excellence from the City of Atlanta and Georgia State University Alumni Association.
Mr. Rhodes was known for being straight forward, honest and having a very quick wit. He helped countless homeless Veteran’s with a selfless concern of never being noticed. Some of his work still remains in the Brooklyn Museum, High Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Art and the Manhattan Museum of Modern Art.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Minor Marvin & Emma Hazel Brown Rhodes.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Suzan Rhodes of Tucker, Ga.; one daughter, Savannah Teague of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Billy Rhodes and wife, Penny of Ruston, La. and Jim Rhodes and wife, Betty of Spearsville, La.; one sister, Jayne Barnes and husband, Danny of Spearsville, La.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
