Funeral services for Coach Larry Stegall will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 30, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Farmerville. Officiating will be Reverend Hank Hamilton. Interment will follow at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Downsville under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Farmerville.
Coach Larry Stegall, age 78 of Farmerville, peacefully rejoined his wife in Heaven on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Born September 1, 1938, in St. Francois County in Missouri, he moved to North Louisiana to attend school and play basketball for then Northeast Louisiana College. After graduation, he immediately began his coaching career in Missouri at Bismark Junior High and later Hillsboro High and North County High which was his alma mater. After returning to Louisiana, he coached at Tallulah High School and Farmerville High School eventually settling as head coach in baseball and basketball at Downsville High School where he coached for over 20 years. There he won 20 district titles and 5 state championships in baseball as well as multiple district championships in basketball. He was inducted into the LHSAA Hall Of Fame in 2009. Though he loved sports, Coach Stegall found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, making others laugh, helping strangers and attending First United Methodist Church of Farmerville.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Gloria Torrence Stegall, his wife of 50 years; his brothers, Vernon, Linn, and Jack; sisters, Ruth, Nita, Theda, and Jeanie, and his grandson, Scott.
He is survived by his children; Kimberly and husband, Ricky McCrary, Karen and husband, Mardis Dunham, and Jeff and wife Audra Stegall; grandchildren, Rachel and husband, Randy, Brian, Reagan, Sophie, Wyatt, Keith and wife Dominique, Addey, Alaina, Aidan, and Steele; and great-grandchildren, Grayson and Betty Jean.
Pallbearers will be Larry Long, Wayne Antley, Tony Antley, Rusty Rugg, William Bandy, and Stan Wilson.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville.
