James “Jim” Lige Harris


Funeral services for Deacon James “Jim” Lige Harris, 89, of Farmerville will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 26, 2016 at Beulah Baptist Church in Farmerville with Rev. Darien Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Farmerville City Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Chapel of Farrar Funeral Home.

Deacon Harris, a retired truck driver, died Tuesday, February 16, 2016. At a young age, Deacon Harris united with First Union (Mt. Arrant) Baptist Church in Camden, Ark. He later united with Beulah Baptist Church of Farmerville and was a member of the Deacon Board where he served as chairman for several years until his health began to fail. He was also a former member of the Farmerville Lodge No. 203 Prince Hall Masons for over 38 years.

Deacon Harris was united to the late Catherine Edwards Harris on July 24, 1948. To this union one son, Arthur Lee Harris was born. He also raised his baby sister, Corine Harris Traylor from an early age and later in life his three grand-daughters, Ramonda, Katrina and Charnea Harris.

Deacon Harris worked as a farmer in Arkansas before moving to Farmerville in 1948 to work for his father for several years. In 1954, he moved to Chama, New Mexico, where he was a truck driver. Upon returning to Farmerville in 1959, he became self-employed for a few years, then later worked for J.A. Auger and several trucking companies hauling wood and chips until he retired in 1993.

“Jim” was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Winnie Harris; wife Catherine Harris; six brothers, Arthur Harris, Jr., Otis Harris, Albert Harris, Sammy Harris, John Porter and Willie Harris; four sisters, Leola Harris, Sara Mae Harris, Winnie Jean Harris and Francis Ann Harris; a step-mother, Lorine Harris Williams; and one granddaughter, Charnette Lashun Harris.

“Jim” leaves to mourn two sons, Arthur Lee Harris and Isaac Bernard Nute, Sr. (Quanecia); daughter, Linda Armstrong; special daughter and sister, Corine Traylor (Earl) of Overland Park, Ks.; sister, Eddie V. Jiles of Sacramento, Ca.; four granddaughters, Ramonda, Katrina, Charnea Harris and Brenda Nute; one grandson, Isaac Bernard Nute, Jr.; nine great-granddaughters, Lakeytra, Jada, Alecia, Shaniqua, Ericka, Brandi, Raliyah, Arielle and Amirah; three great-great grands, Kendrick, Janiyah and Ameya; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
