Jerusha “Jerry” Thurston Brantley


Funeral services for Jerusha “Jerry” Thurston Brantley, 85, were held at 11:00 am Friday, March 20, 2015 at Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville with Bro. Larry White and Bro. Don Reeves officiating. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery in Linville under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brantley, a homemaker, went to her heavenly home March 17, 2015. She was born October 27, 1929 in Gilmer, Texas and moved to Louisiana after her high school graduation. She married and raised her family in Linville and the last 9 years has lived in Farmerville. She was a former member of Haile Church of Christ, and recently of Wards Chapel Church of Christ. Mrs. Brantley loved spending time with family and friends, watching T.V., listening to music, and she enjoyed anything to do with humming birds and cats. In her younger years she enjoyed playing the fiddle.

She was preceded in death by her parents: James Sylvester & Mary Frances Simpson Lunsford; husbands: George E. Thurston and Don Brantley; an infant son; infant grandchildren: Virgil Brantley II and Jesse Brantley; great granddaughter: MaKenzie Murphy; sister: Nettie Mae Platt Tucker; brother: James Vester Lunsford; brothers-in-law: Bennie Platt, Dicky Tucker, and James “Snapper” Thurston; 1 nephew, Bennie Bo Platt.

Left to cherish her memory are her 6 children: Jeannie Browning (E.T.) of Lake Charles, Cindy Brantley (Virgil) of Linville, Steve Thurston (Carol) of Linville, Mike Thurston of Linville, Frances Lee “Sissy” Thurston of Bossier City, and Amy Thomas (Billy) of Spencer; 2 step-sons: Donnie Brantley (Vicki) of Farmerville and Stan Brantley (Lynne) of Huntingdon, TN; 3 nephews, Jay Thurston (Sandi), Bill Thurston (Kaye) and Hank Thurston (Debbie); 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 23 step-great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Rosemary Thurston; nephews: Danny Platt (Donna), Jay Thurston (Sandi), Bill Thurston (Kaye), and Hank Thurston (Debbie); nieces: Becky Hembree, Sue Pace (Stevie) and Cheryl Harrison; lifelong friend: Ruth Parks Breedlove; very special caregiver & friend: Rena Hauslcy; and many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were her grandsons: Steven Thurston, Lance Thomas, Jamey Thomas, B.J. Thomas, Eli Thomas and Tyler Thomas.

Visitation was Thursday at Farrar Funeral Home.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Arbor Rose, Northside Pharmacy, United Home Health Care, Drs. Don Hammett, Ron Hammett, Shafiei and Islam; and Mrs. Brantley’s sitters and caregivers.
