Walter Tracy Smith, MD

Funeral services for Dr. Walter Tracy Smith, age 83, of Ruston will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston with Bro. Cary Tolar officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston.

Dr. Smith was born on November 12, 1930, in Marion. He passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2014, after a brief, but valiant battle with cancer.

Dr. Smith was the first chiropractor in Lincoln parish and provided compassionate and loving care to his patients for 47 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. One of his proudest moments was in 1990 when he caught the Louisiana state record largemouth bass on Lake D’Arbonne weighing 13 pounds 6 ounces.

Dr. Smith was preceded in death by: His parents, Walter Boykin Smith and Lovie Smith; and his granddaughter, Amy Nicole Smith.

Survivors include: His wife of 63 years:, Macelle Taylor Smith; sons – Randy Smith (Gayle), Dr. Wayne Smith (Jackie), Rodney Smith (Precia), Ken Smith (Robin), and Stacy Smith; daughter Stella Craighead (Todd); grandchildren – Brian Smith, Stephanie Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Dr. Greg Smith (Lillian), Sarah Smith, Jennifer Smith Tradewell (Joshua), Bradley Smith (Courtney), Christopher Craighead (Kayla), Taylor Craighead (Dusty Whitecotton), Macey Craighead, Samantha Smith and Jessica Cook; great-grandchildren – Cullen Smith, Charleigh Whitecotton, Branson Smith, Spike Tradewell and Zane Tradwell; and sister, Marcile Donathan of Hanford, Calif.

Pallbearers will be Brian Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Greg Smith, Bradley Smith, Christopher Craighead, Joshua Tradewell, and Dusty Whitecotton.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Owens Memorial Chapel.
