Sherwood Ray Butler, 85 ,of Smackover passed away on August 18, 2012 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas. Born February 20, 1927 in Lillie, Louisiana he was the son of Armor and Ethel Dison Butler.
Mr. Butler was veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War II on an escort carrier. During his career he had been employed by Fallins Wrecking Yard, Daniels Chevrolet Company, Odeco Offshore Drilling, Inc., Life and Casualty Insurance Company, and American General Insurance Company.
He enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, watching bird, squirrels and helping his loving wife Mercell in her flowerbeds.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mercell; his parents; one son; Barry Lynn Butler, and one brother; Glenn Butler.
Survivors include a daughter; Pamela Jean Butler of Farmerville, LA; an adopted daughter Martha Rose Speck of Arkadelphia; three sisters Orelle Blackwell of Bernice, LA; Melba Ober (Gordon) of Bernice, LA; Vera Miller of Cottonwood, California; two grandsons Billy G Murphy III (Kathy) of El Dorado; Brandon Butler (Courtney) of El Dorado; and three granddaughter, Mary Beth Murphy of Farmerville, LA; Delayna Murphy of Little Rock, and India Chase Cook (Chuck) of Mt. Home and one great grandson Barry and five great granddaughters, Taylor, Megan, Sabrina, Trinity, and Courtlynn.
A visitation for family and friends was held from 2-4 p.m. Monday, August 20 at Young’s.
Cremation Services were handled by Young’s Funeral Directors.
