Gerald Kenneth Farrar, Sr. was born July 31, 1926 in Lillie, Louisiana. He passed away on May 9th, 2008 at Saint Francis Medical Center. He graduated Bernice High School and attended Louisiana Tech University. He proudly served his country for two years in the Pacific during World War II.

He married the love of his life Annette Reid of Bernice in 1949. From this marriage came two children: daughter, Jann and son, Ken.

The Farrar’s are members of the United Methodist Church in Farmerville. Gerald was the owner of Farrar Funeral Home until his retirement in 2001. He was a man of great integrity and will be remembered for his compassion and kindness to the families he served. As a civic minded member of the community he held various positions in the Jaycee’s , Lion’s Club, Ducks Unlimited, Chamber of Commerce, and VFW. He was awarded the lifetime achievement award from the Louisiana Funeral Director’s Association, honored as a lifetime member of the American Legion and voted Businessman of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. His sence of humor and fun loving spirit left those around him with a smile.

In his lifetime, Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all flying. He earned his private, seaplane, and commercial aviation licenses.

He was preceded in death by parents, John Malon and Nannie Bennett Farrar, sister-in-law Faye Farrar.

He is survived by wife-Annette Reid Farrar of Farmerville, daughter-Jann Farrar of Monroe, son-Ken Farrar of Farmerville, brother-John Malon Farrar of Ruston, two nephews-Greg Farrar of Washington, D.C. and John Farrarof Longview, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5-7PM on Sunday at Farrar Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Monday at FarrarFuneral Home of Farmerville with Bro. Johnny Hankins and Bro. Larry White officiating. Interment will be in the Bernice Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of FarrarFuneral Home of Farmerville.

Pallbearers will be John Farrar, Bill Martin, Mike Martin, Jason Martin, Rob Martin and Tim Garlington.

Honorary Pallbearers: Jerry Morris, Blain Owens, Carlton White, Coleman Malone, Roy Wiltcher, Randy Reid and Bill Halley.

The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to Ms. Jerry Fields, Dr. Frank Weinholt, and Dr. David Hebert.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be make to the Alzheimer’s Association 322-2828. www.alz.org.
