Dr. Lily Stoppleworth

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dr. Lily Stoppleworth, age 35, of Ruston, La. will be held on Dec. 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Lily was born on May 24, 1971 in El Dorado, Ark. and passed away on Dec. 7, 2006 in Shreveport, La. following injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She grew up in Spearsville.

Lily was a loving and beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and teacher who spent countless hours in service to others. She was generous with, and fiercely protective of, those she loved – and each loved on knew how she felt about them because she communicated it so often and in so many ways. Lily was the rare soul who lived life in the moment and de-emphasized the material things. She had a true talent for finding beauty in the unlikeliest of places (and people). While Lily didn’t remain material possessions for herself, she adored finding “treasures” and was addicted to garage sales and Ebay. She delighted in locating a 10 cent item and re-selling it for a dollar.

As a teacher, Lily believed that character education was vital and sought everyday to remind students of their potential. While she received recognition for her achievements in character education, Lily wanted to do so much more and had planned a book on the subject.

Survived by: her husband Rob Stoppleworth; her son Justin Stoppleworth; her father Don Hogan, and wife Barbara of Downsville; her mother Glenda York of Spearsville; four sisters, Carie Hogan of Spearsville; Tammy Jerry and husband Mac of Junction City, Ark., and their children Chase and Kayla; Donna Rockett and husband Josh of Spearsville, and their children Jackson and Julie; Terri Cousins and husband Ron of Denton, Texas, and their children Meagan and Josh; paternal grandparents D.J. and Maxine Hogan of Glemora; maternal grandparents Edna Albritton and husband Harold of Spearsville and the late Gleen Bryan; and an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and students.
