Funeral services for Jimmy Wess Bowen, 68, of Bernice were held Monday, Aug. 28, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Bernice. Officiating was Rev. Charles Headrick assisted by Rev. Mike Smith. Burial followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville.
Mr. Bowen died Sat., Aug. 26, 2006 at his residence in Bernice.
He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Chairman of the Deacons, and a member of the church choir. Mr. Bowen was also a member of the Bernice Volunteer Fire Dept and was recognized by Governor Mike Foster in 1999 for 33 years of service to the State of Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Newton and Lida Bowen and sister, Monelle B. McCallum.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Prewitt Bowen of Bernice; daughter, Carole Witten and husband Kevin of Canton, Connecticut; son, Wess Bowen and wife Tina of Ruston; grandchildren, Reid Bowen, Taylor and Gavin Witten; brother, John C. Bowen and wife Charlotte of Bernice; special cousin, Roy H. Bledsoe and wife Pat of West Monroe and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jay B. McCallum, Arthur McCallum, Brian Elkins, Daniel Elkins, Stan Elkins, William Ward, Chris Gray, Nathan Kelley, and Trey Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be the Pine Grove Baptist Church Deacons.
Memorials may be made to the Pine Grove Baptist Church Pavilion Fund or Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
